Greetings! I’m Anwen.
“If you give people light, they will find their own way.”
—Dante Alighieri
I’ve devoted much of my life to studying home organization, researching tidying methods, and envisioning and creating beautiful efficient spaces. I am fascinated by the ways that people acquire, utilize, and dispose of objects. I feel endlessly inspired to improve my surroundings, and I love to daydream about how to help others do the same.
My first reading of Marie’s book, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing, left me feeling validation. Someone understood and articulated the challenges I’ve noticed with most existing tidying approaches. Marie’s revolutionary method of tidying strictly by category, in contrast to the popular practice of tidying by space/location, made so much sense to me. She playfully and acceptingly described anthropomorphism (assigning human attributes to our things) as a respectful way to view objects, which is not a common belief in our western culture. I loved Marie’s focus on gratitude and thanking items as a way of parting with them. As I began applying her ideas to my own life, I saw extraordinary shifts in my confidence, decision- making ability, and level of happiness for my future.
My official KonMari journey began in 2016 with Marie Kondo and others from around the world in her first San Francisco training. I proudly earned my KonMari® Consultant certification in 2018 — the very first in Wisconsin!
The KonMari® Method is an essential guide to finding the root causes of stress in our lives, while dismantling the delusion of what we think brings us peace.
I offer support to others who, like me, are fed up with feelings of frustration and guilt over our culture’s toxic pressure to accumulate stuff. I become weary of my family’s participation in the cycle of consumption and waste. If we are so lucky as to have more possessions than we need, I feel we must honor this privilege by truly appreciating, utilizing, and caring for what we deem “ours.” This approach not only respects the environment, but also provides us with a gift to ourselves: the easing of the mental and emotional stress generated by living with clutter.
It takes courage to examine what we have acquired in our lifetime, and it takes time to inventory what we are consuming. We each have a responsibility to adjust our habits, navigate our lives in a more sustainable way, and lighten our environmental footprint. I am proud to be a guide for you on this journey, helping you to examine your possessions and change your relationship with the objects in your home — as well as with the people you love.
